Colonel Aubrey Ridley-Thompson died on 9th of October aged 91. He fought with the 4th Hussars in Italy and was commanding a Squadron in Austria before the Regiment returned to England in 1946. He had been working for Boots before the war and he rejoined them on demobilisation but continued soldiering as a territorial with The City of London Yeomanry.

When Boots moved him to Nottingham in 1955 Colonel Tony Murray-Smith offered him command of C Sqn the Leicestershire Yeomanry based in Loughborough with outstations in Melton and Burbage.  Following their amalgamation he subsequently commanded the Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry from 1961 until his retirement in 1964. He had a great sense of humour and made sure that soldiering was fun for all involved.  As Chairman of The Leicestershire Yeomanry Association he remained an enthusiastic and dedicated supporter of the Regiment.  He was a director of Boots a Deputy Lieutenant for Leicestershire and President of the Carillon War Memorial Trust.
